Applying the LPLM© enables the project management to distinguish clearly between different requirements for a plan. All outcomes of the planning process are tailored to a certain view. For example, the schedule on the strategical level should show how a project fits into a program or the portfolio of an organization. Planning on several level reduces the uncertainties by giving a clear way of working. All relations between the levels can be taken into account step-by-step. This defines ideally all dependencies that may occur during the planning process.

The major advantages of having plans on all levels are:

  • Plans on each level address only the necessary information.
  • The message of the plan is tailored to a specific audience.
  • This reduces the amount of detailed information for each group of stakeholder.
  • Dependencies between several levels are easy to understand and manage.
  • A plan can be drafted step-by-step in the respective level and then aligned between all levels.

Project frameworks refer to several plans that are required to create a solid basis for a project. Taking the different needs for each level into account the respective plans start at diverse points and show only certain information which belong to a level. For example, a risk plan shows tailored information on each level that cover the special needs there.

The table shows the plans that should be prepared as well as the dependencies on all level and their particular features:
